A heroic tale of Breast Cancer Survivor

Shormistha Mukherjee touches numerous hearts by weaving words that create magic! Co-founder of a digital agency, Shormistha ran a very popular blog under the name ‘AgentGreenGlass’ where she wrote about her fascinating life experiences and her routine life too! She has previously published a series of short stories on Juggernaut. Being engrossed in her work until one day when her life took a 360° turn as the news broke that she is being diagnosed with breast cancer, shocked herself as no one in her family had it!

Being quite optimistic as she got the best set of oncologists, who tapped her positive outlook about her prognosis, she underwent surgery for removing the lump to avoid the spread and undergo breast reconstruction too!

She decided to blog her entire experience about going through chemotherapy and agreeing with the fact that chemo wards are most dreaded by patients. She got an amazing response with strangers pouring encouragement and being her well-wishers.

“You need an entire village to support you”, says Shormistha when she recalls the time her friends & family especially her husband, parents and sister-in-law were her rock-solid support throughout her malady.

Soon she had to discontinue her blog as it was quite overwhelming for her parents to constantly be on edge while seeing her going through harsh times additionally reading about it.

She completed her treatment and also made amazing friends with fellow patients in the chemo ward and was encouraged by everyone to write about her experience as she came out of with sheer bravery and to inspire others she gave birth to her debut book, ‘Cancer, You Picked the Wrong Girl’.

“No one wants to read about problems”, agreed Shormistha, but adding humour to her dreadful experiences made her readers awestruck as they laughed, cried and felt inspired all at once as they turned pages one after the other.

Everyone has forebodings about the C-word ‘Cancer’, with statistics showing upward graphs and is still considered taboo in India. “Nobody wants to talk about it, I want to urge ladies to get regular health screening done. Prevention is always better than cure,” adds Shormistha.

She had a mind-boggling experience when her physical appearance changed. Losing hair, eyebrows and eyelashes were not easy. She could feel in the eyes of others when they met her but the incident made her very strong and she got acquainted with “Life Lessons” which Cancer taught her.

Her book, ‘Cancer, You Picked the Wrong Girl’ is all about hope when you undergo difficult times. She believes there is always light at the end of the tunnel. Anyone with similar experience can relate best with her while others can get well-prepared if in case they might have a similar incident in life God – forbid!

Shormistha’s book is getting amazing responses with readers constantly pouring appreciation and while she reads them all she gets teary-eyed as it’s so well received.

She made a few lifestyle changes after her cure as she blamed her stressful life with odd working hours with no time to eat triggered her cancer cells. So now she values each day rather than each passing moment and loves her new life and is looking forward to writing more books in future.
