Last Friday, as the chandelier of the Jamshed Bhabha Theatre, dimmed, the Symphony Orchestra of India began playing the introduction to the opening concert of their Autumn 2022 Season. Audiences were captivated by the more than 80 musicians of India’s first and only professional orchestra for the first time in nearly three years, as conductor Alpesh Chauhan led the SOI in a phenomenal performance of the excerpts from Prokofiev’s ballet, Romeo and Juliet.
And on the 21st of September, they’re doing it all again! Chauhan returns, this time alongside Ben Goldscheider on the horn. Goldscheider was nominated by the Barbican Centre in London as an ECHO Rising Star and has performed with leading orchestras and conductors all over the world.
Prepare yourself for a romantic evening featuring Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture and the Symphonic Dances from the beloved musical West Side Story. Discover music for the French horn by Mozart and Richard Strauss. For those interested in learning more about the music, there will be a pre-concert talk at 6.20 pm, 40 minutes before the start of the performance.
Be sure to also attend Goldscheider’s recital on the 23rd of September with pianist Richard Uttley. He will perform Beethoven’s Horn Sonata along with works by Schubert, Schumann, and more. Mark Simpson’s Nachtstück, which was commissioned specifically for Goldscheider by the Barbican, will also be performed.
An experience like no other awaits at the NCPA!
