The Symphony Orchestra of India is delighted to welcome audiences back to the NCPA for its Autumn 2022 Season. It all begins on the 16th of September with an Opening Night concert by conductor Alpesh Chauhan OBE and pianist Benjamin Grosvenor. Chauhan, who was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s New Year honours in 2022 for his contribution and service to the art of music, makes his Indian debut. Audiences will be treated to Humperdinck’s Overture to Hansel & Gretel, Mendelssohn’s Piano Concerto No. 1 and excerpts from Romeo and Juliet by Prokofiev. Friends (members) of the SOI will get to continue the festivities with a post-show gala dinner, where they can meet and dine with the musicians of the SOI.

The stellar line-up doesn’t stop at the season opener. Audiences can look forward to performances by internationally acclaimed artistes like conductor Richard Farnes, pianist Pavel Kolesnikov, horn player Ben Goldscheider, and the trio of Sayaka Shoji, Henri Demarquette and Jean-Frédéric Neuburger. The programmes feature probably the broadest range of repertoire in an SOI season to date – from the classics of Beethoven and Brahms to the ballet music of Prokofiev, concerti for French horn, music from Broadway by Bernstein, and much more.

The visit of the Hungarian State Opera in October brings back the spectacle of a fully staged opera to Mumbai and with three performances of Strauss’s much-loved Die Fledermaus, it promises to be a treat to music lovers of the city. There will also be an exclusive concert performance of their national opera Bánk Bán on the 15th of October.

The SOI Autumn 2022 Season features symphonic concerts, recitals and a fully-staged opera. It’s a festival of music no one should miss!
