In a world where charities often struggle to garner the financial support they need, the American Club for International Women, Mumbai (ACIW) had introduced Charity Shopping Mela, an exquisite platform that not only aids charities in showcasing and selling their products but also connects them with thousands of visitors from both the local and expatriate communities. This event, managed entirely by volunteer members of the club, has been a beacon of hope for more than a decade, helping numerous NGOs thrive.

The Charity Shopping Mela has been a distinctive fixture on Mumbai’s charitable landscape. This year, ACIW is offering over 20 NGOs the opportunity to raise funds by selling their unique products and showcase their causes. Recognizing the financial constraints that charities often face in marketing themselves, this event was designed to give them an opportunity. Charities are provided with free tables, while social enterprises and unique vendors pay a nominal fee to participate. 100% of the proceeds from the event go back to NGOs ACIW supports.

The last Charity Mela took place in 2019. It took a halt later as the world grappled with the challenges posed by the pandemic. The pause was deeply felt, but now, in 2023, this cherished event is making a triumphant return. Scheduled for Sunday, the 29th of October 2023, the ACIW Charity Shopping Mela will once again grace the prestigious venue of Trident BKC, uniting the community in a common cause.

Throughout its history, the ACIW Charity Shopping Mela has supported a multitude of organisations, with Mann and Access Life standing out as two major beneficiaries. ACIW has not only provided a platform for these organizations to showcase their cause but has also promoted their brands, significantly enhancing their reach and impact.

MANN, a remarkable 12-year-old non-profit organization, has dedicated its mission to working with adults with Intellectual Development Disabilities (IDD). Their vision is to empower young adults with intellectual disabilities to lead lives filled with dignity and independence. One of the pivotal aspects of their work involves training these individuals for meaningful work and partnering with businesses to help them secure jobs.

Attesting to the invaluable role played by ACIW in helping MANN achieve its mission, Geetanjali Gaur (HOD – MANN) says that ‘ACIW’s support has been nothing short of crucial, encompassing a wide range of assistance. This includes funding for training, generous in-kind donations, providing employment opportunities, volunteering support, and even cultivating long-term donors, making strides toward a world where young adults with intellectual disabilities can live a life full of dignity and independence. She further adds, ‘It’s been a rewarding journey with ACIW and we are grateful for their assistance. Here’s to the continuation of our successful collaboration with ACIW’.

ACIW Mumbai aspires to make each year’s Charity Shopping Mela bigger and better, creating a profound impact on the lives of those in need. As the event returns after a hiatus, it carries with it the hope of a brighter future and an unwavering commitment to support the causes that matter most.

The spirit of this event goes beyond raising funds; it serves as an opportunity for anyone who wishes to contribute to making a difference. By attending the Charity Shopping Mela, you can directly engage with these charities, learn about their missions, and explore how you can offer your time and expertise by volunteering. It’s an event that extends an invitation to everyone, encouraging collective efforts to create a better, more compassionate world.

Join us on Sunday, the 29th of October 2023, at Trident BKC, and become a part of a movement that strives to uplift communities and transform one’s being. Together, we can make a significant impact on the lives of those who need it the most.
